Big Adventure: Orepuki on Horseback

We started off the day with a run outside of Te Anau and a leisurely breakfast.

From there we took the scenic route to Orepuki on the south coast. My wife really wanted to get a horseback ride in during our NZ vacation. She had done a lot of research and looked at lots of different places to ride before settling on this one. Our guide was Elfi, she and her family live have a huge farm that runs down from the hills to the beach with about 3000 sheep and several hundred head of cattle. A fourth rider, Natalie, whose horses we were riding joined us as well. Elfi's dog, Sue and her hilarious miniature pony, Buddy were welcome additions to our party. We started in the pastures near the farmhouse and made a loop down to the beach. I loved seeing my wife having so much fun, but 3 hours of bouncing with my Canon 5D was a little more than I needed to get my horse fix.

The trees at Orepuki would suggest that the weather we experienced was much better than usual.

Tomorrow we're off to see the Catlins.
